Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) announces an exceptional opportunity for a proven health care attorney to serve as the health system’s first Vice President and Chief Legal Officer (CLO). As an integral member of the Senior Executive Team, the CLO will assist with developing vision and strategic initiatives, provide support for all corporate transactions, and lend legal expertise to all departments. The CLO will develop and implement a system-wide legal strategy in partnership with outside counsel as appropriate, to address complex legal and regulatory issues.
Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) is a not-for-profit community health system dedicated to improving the health and quality of life of more than 700,000 people in 13 counties across Northeast Georgia. The rapidly expanding system includes 600-inpatient beds at three hospital facilities, a 300+ member employed multispecialty physician group, a mental health and substance abuse treatment center, a satellite cancer treatment center, outpatient imaging centers and multiple urgent care centers. The flagship hospital, Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC), was rated by CareChex as Georgia’s #1 Hospital for the second consecutive year and #2 in the nation for Overall Hospital Care.
The CLO will provide consultation and assistance to the governing bodies, the President and Chief Executive Officer, medical staff, and to Executive and Departmental leadership, interfacing with and coordinating work performed by outside legal counsel. The CLO will perform work related to legal and regulatory compliance, contractual matters, medical staff matters, risk management and insurance. The CLO will provide high quality, responsive and cost effective representation in support of the strategic goals and objectives of NGHS.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a minimum of seven years of experience in healthcare law including general business and transactional matters, licensing and accreditation requirements, medical staff issues, insurance and state and federal regulatory compliance, physician group practices and senior level health care healthcare responsibilities. Knowledge and experience in litigation, risk management and employment law are highly desirable. Experience in a Lean organization is preferred. A Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school and the ability to obtain state licensure in Georgia are required.
