Randolph Health is seeking PRN Pediatricians to cover the newborn nursery and inpatient pediatrics, weekends, from Friday at 7 pm until Monday at 7am, or Friday 7pm - Sunday 7pm. Expected response time for the ED is 10 minutes by phone, 10-15 minutes for emergent c-sections, and 30 minutes to be at bedside for all other matters. You will round on inpatient newborns and inpatient peds. In addition to an attractive base rate, Randolph Health will cover hotel expense in Asheboro, travel, meals in the hospital cafeteria, and malpractice.
Randolph Health has 800 deliveries per year. There is a Level II nursery that provides care for premature newborns 32 weeks of gestation (though 36+ weeks is most common) and full-term newborns with breathing difficulties, jaundice or other medical conditions. Our average newborn census is 4. There is not a NICU. Babies needing a ventilator or higher level of care are transferred to Brenner's Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, which is part of Wake Forest Baptist Health, and provides excellent critical care transport, often on-site at delivery.
Our inpatient pediatric census is minimal, occasionally 1-3 patients, with asthma, RSV, etc... Most days there are no pediatric patients.
The expectation around working with the ED physicians is to collaborate and decide what is patient first, which is our core value. This may result in advice on the phone, or coming in for a formal consultation. Core privileges include circumcisions and lumbar punctures. We don't expect a physician to do a procedure they aren't comfortable with. If the physician decides that the patient can be seen in follow-up in a primary care office on Monday morning, include that information in a hand-off.
Board certified in pediatrics, or board eligible if less than two years out of residency.
Additional Salary Information: Attractive per weekend rate, plus Randolph Health will cover hotel expense in Asheboro, approved travel, meals at the hospital, and malpractice.
