The Associate Dean for Clinical Education provides vision, innovative leadership, and direction in the development of the statewide Clinical Education Network, including undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education elements. The Associate Dean for Clinical Education serves as a liaison between Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) and its clinical education partners to develop and maintain strong relationships with each affiliated institution. This position will provide leadership to the Clinical Education Network in the delivery of osteopathic medical education and is responsible and accountable for all aspects of the clinical medical education program. This position requires extensive travel as well as some evening and weekend hours.
The expected responsibilities include: 1. Academic - Provide vision, leadership, innovation and direction in the planning and implementation of pre- and post-doctoral osteopathic medical education throughout the State of Ohio focused on clinical education. - Ensures compliance with accreditation standards (AOA, ACGME, COCA) - Ensures that internal review processes are established and implemented for supporting and facilitating the development of post-doctoral training programs (residencies and fellowships) - Oversee and manages UME clinical education operations, including development of partner relationships, recruitment and retention of clinical preceptors, and the management and development of clinical rotations - Create and strengthen the curricular connection between undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education. - Serve as the Chief Academic Officer with responsibilities related to compliance for HCOM Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institution (OPTI) until its closure. - Partner with the Associate Dean for Curriculum to ensure delivery of an integrated curriculum across 4 years - Provide regular training and educational activities for faculty, staff and administration to include a minimum of 2 annual “Clinical Education Summits” per year.
2. Administration - Collaborates with the Executive Dean, Associate Dean for Curriculum, campus deans, assistant deans and others to ensure the success of OU-HCOM clinical education - Supervises classified and administrative staff involved in clinical education operations and management - Manages annual budgets - Manages business services for partners including the development and delivery of partner focused programs in education, research, faculty development, and improving care delivery. - Manages the systems for monitoring the effectiveness of clinical education programs - Develop and provide oversight of the Office of Clinical and Graduate Medical Education. - Collaborate with clinical education organizations and sites to ensure an outstanding clinical learning environment
3. Communication – Acts as a liaison between OU-HCOM and affiliated clinical education institutions. Develops and maintains relationships with affiliated hospitals, as well as other colleges and institutions - Promotes public relations with affiliated institutions, the osteopathic profession and professional organizations at the state and national levels. - Cultivates strong lines of communication between and among clinical education offices, the Office of Academic Affairs, and affiliated hospital medical education offices. - Collaborates with assistant deans (Clinical Education Offices), directors of medical education, program directors, hospital administrators and deans at all OU-HCOM campuses, etc.

Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine is required; – - must have an Ohio medical license or be eligible to obtain an Ohio medical license; - must have a minimum of ten years of experience in the practice of medicine and extensive leadership experience in GME/UME; - demonstrated leadership in the osteopathic profession is required. A minimum of three years of direct supervisory experience is required.
