Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
As a member of the Behavioral Health Unit Team, this position is designed to facilitate collaboration and communication among healthcare providers to move patients smoothly through the clinical and regulatory continuum of care. This advanced practice provider will work in a multidisciplinary integrated team with Physicians, Director, Nursing, Nurse Navigators, Case Managers, Social Workers, Discharge Planners, Pharmacists, and Therapists rounding in an inpatient setting. The NP functions autonomously and in collaboration with the physicians and other healthcare professionals to manage the psychiatric care of patients, both voluntary and involuntary. The incumbent in this position is responsible for providing psychotherapy and medication evaluation and management to a range of patients having mental illness and substance abuse disorders under the supervision of Medical Director and other consulting psychiatrist(s). This position identifies and manages problems within the CA Nurse Practitioner scope of practice in an acute setting, providing physical examinations, psychiatric assessments/evaluations, treatment planning, discharge planning, ordering diagnostic tests, medications and other therapies. There will also be focus on operational efficiencies, cost reduction efforts, and program development.This position requires the NP to work under supervision or independently as directed by the situation and at times under stressful conditions.
Licensure and Certification:
Current California RN license
Nurse Practitioner Certification by the state of California Board of Registered Nursing
Possession of a furnishing number from the state of California Board of Registered Nursing
Possession of a DEA number for Scheduled II-V drugs
Current BLS and ACLS provider cards
Certification as a Psychiatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner by a nationally recognized certifying organization
California Board of Registered Nursing listing as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
A minimum of two (2) years clinical experience in a psychiatric acute care setting as a Certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Advanced Practice Nurse with at least (2) years clinical experience working with persons who have serious mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders.
Knowledge and Skills:
Extensive knowledge of: the etiology of serious mental illness, mental retardation, developmental, and substance abuse disorders and their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology; nursing practice and medical evaluation, physical diseases and their treatment; community resources and networking techniques; and of psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
Clinical knowledge of diagnosis, evaluation, assessment, treatment, and management of hospitalized patients
Ability to provide individualized care focusing not only on psychiatric disorders and other common health problems, but also the effects of psychiatric disorders and other health problems have on people and their families.
Ability to explain the details of psychiatric disorders, common health problems, medications, and other topics to help people fully understand how to take care of themselves.
Provide quality care that result in high level of patient satisfaction.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to manage difficult or emotional patient situations and respond promptly to patient needs.
