Position Description: This position is within the NICU Mental Health program in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. NICU Psychology is a grant funded program that is charged with the goal of providing mental health support for parents who have an infant admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit. The purpose of the program is to provide appropriate mental health support to parents of infants admitted to the NICU in order to decrease or prevent anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder. It is well established in the literature that parents who have an infant admitted in the NICU have greater risk for developing post-partum mood related disorders and timely intervention is highly recommended. The NICU Psychologist will work under the direction of the lead Psychologist to develop internal programs that support parents who are actively experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, increase liaisons with community resources in preparation for warm handovers when needed and to provide training on advanced maternal mental health/paternal mental health issues for staff and parents. The NICU Psychologist wiill work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as with a diverse and high risk patient population. The NICU Psychologist will follow the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's patient care protocols at Miller Children's and Women's Hospital and work in close, respectful collaboration wtih nursing, neonatologists and social workers, among other disciplines, to meet the purpose of the grant.
