This is an open and continuous announcement which will be used to fill Registered Nurse positions In Mental Health at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The presence of a location on this announcement does not necessarily indicate a current vacancy. Applications will be reviewed and referred upon request from the service as vacancies arise. The RN will practice on a secured, acute inpatient psychiatric unit or in the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP). The RN is aware veterans with a dual diagnosis will include mental health diagnosis, co-existing with a substance abuse diagnosis, as well as a possible co-morbid medical condition. The RN delivers theoretically and scientifically based nursing care to an assigned group of veterans. He/she is constantly building upon current clinical competencies. Serves as an advocate for the veteran and is obligated to demonstrate nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory attitudes and behaviors that are sensitive to veteran diversity. The RN is accountable to function as an effective team member, team leader, preceptor and/or charge nurse. The Inpatient Mental Health Nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. Duties include but are not limited to:- Delivers fundamental nursing care according to the principles of the Veteran Centered Care Model.- Consistently models professional conduct in routine and stressful situations.- Performs basic, physical, psychological and social assessments. Demonstrates a beginning ability to identify and prioritize care needs.- Provides population-based care for young adult through elderly veterans. Assesses population based care requirements.- Implements the plan of care, meeting the needs of veterans in a safe, therapeutic manner. Demonstrates accountability for management of Veteran assignment.- Recognizes critical veteran care situations and seeks appropriate assistance. Maintains current BLS and initiates and performs when necessary.- Demonstrates knowledge and/or required safety skills in area of assignment and, when appropriate, in the following: emergency preparedness plan, hazardous materials, fire plan, equipment failure emergency plan, and utility outage response procedures for their area.- Systematically documents/reports veteran care using nursing process, according to policies and procedures. Work Schedule: Work Schedule: Day Shift (7:30am-4:00pm), Afternoon Shift (3:30pm-12:00am) or Night Shift (11:30pm-8:00am) including weekends and holidays.
