The Primary Care Mental Health Integration Team (PCMHI) Psychologist will work within the PCMHI to assist in the delivery of evidence- based care for Primary Care patients identified with a variety of behavioral and mental health issues including mild to moderate depression, anxiety and substance use problems. In addition, behavioral concerns include, but are not limited to, sleep, tobacco use, and medical adherence issues. As a Licensed Provider for the Department of Veterans Affairs, you will practice independently in the provision of psychological services, engage in professional and scientific work which relates to behavior, capacities, personality, interests, emotions and mental disorders, consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Note: Until licensed with two years of full-time professional experience, the individual must be supervised by a licensed psychologist and the clinical experience and supervision must meet the standards for psychology licensure. Major duties and responsibilities include: Clinical Responsibilities Provides a full range of psychological assessment and using the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care, focusing mostly on brief functional assessments and short-term psychotherapy most often for mild to moderate conditions commonly seen in primary care (e.g. depression, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and alcohol misuse). In addition, provides evidence-based modalities consistent with an integrated care model for behavioral health concerns (e.g. health behavior change). Also, provides suicide risk assessments as appropriate within the primary care setting. Performs functional assessment and evaluations for patient enrolled in Primary Care patients to aid in treatment planning and treatment within the primary care setting. Facilitates warm-hand off and open access availability to ensure on-time, seamless access to behavioral health access within the primary care clinics. Consults and liaisons with the Primary Care and Behavioral Health Staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. S/He must develop and maintain excellent working relationships with physicians, supervisors, service chiefs, nurses, allied staff, patient representatives and management. Contributes to training of primary care team members on performance measures, clinical reminders, effective consultation with behavioral health and PCMHI initiatives. Provides administrative duties including: Scheduling of Veterans and related issues, addressing Veterans' phone calls, completing progress notes within one working day. ENRICHING ELEMENTS (not all elements may apply) Academic/Teaching/Training: Program Evaluation/Outcome Measurement/Research: May participate in development and improvement of new and existing behavioral health programming in primary care and throughout medical center. May participate in program-wide outcome evaluation studies. Assists Behavioral Health management with the establishment of program monitors and outcome measures within programs using data-driven quality assurance process. May participate in or originate research projects that involve the use of VA resources and may involve coordination with university faculty and/or grant money. Timely completion of all program evaluations & documents required by the Medical Center, VISN, and IBH Division & BH service. Contributes to training of facility and nursing staff throughout the facility on performance measures, clinical reminders and appropriate consultation to Behavioral Health. Provides supervision of psychology trainees or unlicensed staff conducting direct clinical care. Provides administrative duties including: Scheduling of Veterans and related issues, addressing Veterans' phone calls, completing progress notes within one working day. If licensed, provides clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training to include psychology practicum students, and interns. May be invited to participate in the Psychology Training Committee and program. Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, directives, pertinent to his/her practice of psychology within the medical center or clinics. Stays abreast of new developments in Integrated Care/Primary Care Psychology/Behavioral Medicine. Other Significant Responsibilities: W ill a ttend weekly and monthly PCMHI, CBOC & BH meetings and other treatment team meetings as assigned up to (5% of ti me). Makes professional level presentations to the medical center, community, universities, or professional organizations. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Education Debt Reduction Program - This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
