| The Occupational Therapist (OT) in this position provides direct patient care and therapy services on an independent basis across the continuum of care to Veterans at the SLVHCS Mental Health Service Psychosocial Rehabilitation Recovery Center. OTs provide complex occupational therapy treatment for functional abilities is areas such as sensory/motor, cognitive, perceptual, psychosocial, activities of daily living, range of motion, muscle strength and physical endurance for our patients. Major duties for the Occupational Therapist (OT) include, but are not limited to: Demonstrating advance competence in the examination and treatment of MH patients in Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation; Conducting comprehensive patient examinations to identify rehabilitation problems and establish treatment goals; Preparing evaluations that include medical history and relevant evidence-based data collection methods, assessments, interventions, and outcome measures specifically related to the function, mobility and occupational performance of older adults; Preparing evaluations that address rehabilitation potential, function, motor and sensory skills, durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment needs, safety, prevention and barriers to learning; Appropriately planning Veteran discharge and/or need for continuing treatment and terminates treatment when the Veteran reaches maximum rehabilitation potential; Developing and maintaining treatment programs and/or clinics based on best practices and evidence based in functional movement and activities performance in patient management; Providing the equipment, materials, instruction, encouragement, or counseling necessary to promote functional living, movement and activities performance. Assesses, selects, adapts, and/or fits assistive and adaptive devices in accordance with rehabilitation goals; Integrating relevant mental health literature, theory, and evaluation data to promote functional movement, activities engagement, health and wellbeing and minimize disability in patients; Designing and providing primary, secondary, or tertiary prevention programs, such as safety and fall prevention programs, to facilitate patient's optimal engagement in functional movement, activities performance and /or lifestyle. Considering principles of optimal aging across physiological systems (musculoskeletal, sensory integration, cognition, neuromotor, cardiopulmonary and integumentary). Establishing and maintaining contact with other key staff involved in Mental Health patient care via written, telephone, and personal communication on regular basis at the Medical Center, VISN and National or Local Level. Developing programs, process improvement and program evaluation in area of specialty in collaboration with Lead therapist and Program Manager.
