The Psychologist will serve as a Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP)Coordinator under the Chief of Behavioral Health for the specific programs and committees related to workplace violence prevention in the El Paso VA Health Care System (EPVAHCS). The Psychologist will be responsible for coordinating, chairing and co-chairing the inter/multidisciplinary Threat Assessment Teams including the Employee Threat Assessment Team (ETAT) and Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC). Duties will include, but are not limited to: Employee Threat Assessment Team (ETAT) Chair As Chair of the ETAT, the WVPP Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day to day business of the inter/multidisciplinary committee that reviews incidents of Employee-Generated Disruptive Behaviors. The ETAT represents a preemptive strategy for addressing employee generated violence. The ETAT chair oversees the functions of ETAT, including: obtaining incident reports and delegating cases to team members, assembling all available information regarding any alleged disruptive or threatening employee behavior; determining whether the reported disruptive behavior(s) pose a safety threat to individuals and/or the workplace; and if so, making risk mitigation recommendations to the facility Director to manage the safety threat posed by the reported behavior(s). The ETAT chair reports directly to, has ready access to, and has the confidence of the Facility Director and the Executive Leadership Team. The ETAT chair works closely with representatives from local bargaining units, Human Resources staff members, VA Police Officers, representatives from the facility's Safety Office, and Attorney's from the Office of Regional counsel. The ETAT chair provides quarterly updates to the Clinical Executive Board and collaborates closely with the Chief of Police, Chief of Behavioral Health Service and the Chief of Staff. Disruptive Behavior Committee (DBC) Co-Chair As co-chair of the DBC, the WVPP Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the day to day business of the inter/multidisciplinary committee that reviews incidents of Veteran-Patient Generated Disruptive Behaviors and Visitor-Generated Disruptive Behaviors. This role involves: maintaining abreast of the latest evidence-based risk assessment and management literature and tools; conducting and delegating clinical threat/risk assessments to determine recommendations for risk mitigation strategies to use in consultation with VA Providers, clinical staff and DBC members; informing and providing risk relevant clinical interventions in cases of disruptive or violent behavior history; serving as the point of contact and provider as needed for a caseload of patients with disruptive behavior; providing and overseeing education to staff; providing timely and accurate responses to action items and recommendations made by the DBC; and ensuring ongoing training of team members in evidence-based threat assessment and threat management practice. The DBC co-chair assists with providing quarterly updates to the Clinical Executive Board and collaborates closely with the Chief of Police, Chief of Behavioral Health Service and the Chief of Staff. Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (IPVAP) The WVPP Coordinator is a facility subject matter expert (SME) and a point of contact formatters related to intimate partner violence. They will ensure that the IPVAP is implemented in accordance with the VHA Plan for Implementation of the Domestic Violence Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (2013), national policies and adapted to comply with further national guidance that modifies those recommendations. The WVPP Coordinator ensures that the program follows a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach to care for Veterans who experience and/or use IPV. Distributes the contact information for the IPVAP in prominent locations throughout the facility (e.g., main entrance(s), Primary Care and Women's Health Clinics, web sites, social media, directories, etc.). Attends regularly scheduled nationally IPVAP training calls and quarterly VISN program implementation calls. Provides on-going efforts to raise awareness about IPV and the effects on health and psychosocial issues through targeted facility and community wide campaigns and coordination of domestic violence awareness month events. Prevention & Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) The WVPP Coordinator provides clinical guidance to the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior Program (PMDB). The incumbent assists the WVPP Program Support Specialist in educating staff in recognizing signs and factors of potential danger, strategies for de-escalation, and identifying resources that can directly address individual needs to help improve the quality of veteran care and reduce overall risk.
