We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with substance use disorder (SUD) treatment program experience to deliver office-based addiction treatment at South Shore Medical Center in Norwell, Massachusetts. You will provide direct care and consultations for addiction and withdrawal management for alcohol and opioid use disorders in a community setting, while working to reduce stigmatization of addiction and treatments. Duties include:
- Taking initial history and performing physical assessments for potential SUD medication management candidates
- Providing addiction care and evaluation, diagnosis and treatment to patients in a community-based setting with support from designated SSMC physician provider
- Consulting with Medical Director and Advanced Practice Clinician nurse manager of Addiction Management in a matrix secondary relationship
- Administering Naltrexone ER (Vivitrol) depot intramuscular injections and injectable subcutaneous buprenorphine (Sublocade) monthly to appropriate candidates
- Assessing withdrawal symptoms during buprenorphine induction, before and after dosing for patients receiving in-office induction
- Assessing, diagnosing and treating complex, acute and chronically ill patients for urgent and emergent conditions related to SUD and associated medical conditions
- Providing patient education related to buprenorphine, including home induction, proper use, side effects, storage and medical issues of concern
- Performing ongoing follow-up treatment and maintaining ongoing contact with patients in person or by phone
- Facilitating destigmatization of addiction and treatment through active education and support of SSMC providers
- Providing expert consultation to other nursing, physician and hospital staff to coordinate treatment plans and help transition patient care
- Serving as patient and family advocate to discuss risks/benefits of addiction treatment options and facilitate ethical, patient-centered decision making
- Providing clinical subject matter expertise in 42 CFR Part 2 regulations to support SSMC care teams in compliance and understanding as related to patient care and information release/sharing
Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree from NLN accredited graduate program, or prior work experience at opioid treatment program, detox, SUD residential treatment program utilizing medications for SUD treatment
- Bridge program or office-based addiction treatment program strongly preferred
