Position Title: Registered Nurse - Mental Health Clinical Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. chapter 73 or 74, to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The mental/sensory requirements include recall, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing, keyboarding, reading, and logical thinking. The environment's pace can vary from steady to a sometimes-fast pace requiring handling of multiple priorities, frequent, sometimes intense customer interactions and the ability to adapt to frequent changes in a sometimes-noisy environment. There may be the need to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to disease, illness, and hazardous materials. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting; adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries; exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The incumbent possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative interdisciplinary practice setting to optimize patient care, patient safety and clinical outcomes. Major duties include, but are not limited to: -Providing transcranial magnetic stimulation treatment and coordination of mental health patient's care during therapy. -Providing precise measurements and astute observations to TMS Attending Providers (psychiatrists). -Providing daily screenings of neuromodulation patients. This screening includes: inquiries regarding changes in medication, sleep status, mood or anxiety related to neuromodulation therapy; assessing for use of substances and knowledge of medication/substance use relevant to neuromodulation therapy; and evaluating the veteran for any worn metal that needs removal. -Providing pre-treatment education for all interested Veterans and potential new patients. -Providing direct patient care to a culturally diverse Veteran patient population. -Effectively applying all aspects of the nursing process and care management principles within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. -Providing care appropriate to the age related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. -Communicating and interacting appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers. -Maintaining confidentiality of electronic, written, and/or verbal patient/employee information. -Demonstrating working practices that include adherence to infection control standards and the safe use and operation of equipment. -Promoting health and prevention practices. -Discussing management of acute and chronic illnesses as well as attainment of optimal levels of functioning.
