Nemours Children's Hospital - Delaware (previously Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children) invites applicants for a full-time psychologist position within the Division of Psychology, Dept. of Pediatrics for the Endocrinology service, specifically focusing on youth with diabetes. This position sits within the Division of Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics.

Nemours has a well-established Diabetes Collaborative Clinic (DCC) which is a multi-disciplinary, integrated care service. The psychologist will work alongside endocrinologists, advance nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, dieticians, and social work. Both Endocrinology and Psychology providers are available to meet with families to provide a collaborative approach to managing diabetes as well as support emotional and behavioral health. Common referrals include adjustment to new diagnosis, preparing for periods of transition, family, community, adherence, and assessing mood and behavior concerns. In addition to the focus on diabetes, the psychologist will have the opportunity to see patients with other endocrine-related challenges (e.g., growth deficiency, thyroid disorders, precocious puberty). While most of the clinical care provided will be at the main campus in Wilmington, Delaware, the psychologist also will spend one day/week providing endocrinology-related care at a satellite clinic. In addition to clinical care in the DCC setting, the psychologist will have a caseload of outpatient therapy cases serving youth with various endocrine challenges.

The psychologist will provide supervision and training to residents (pre-doctoral interns) and fellows within several milieu, including DCC, outpatient therapy, and on the inpatient service. Teaching, training, and mentoring are core values in our division and these efforts are supported and encouraged. We are committed to expanding the pipeline of a diverse workforce and our educational efforts are grounded in and guided by a lens of health equity, diversity, inclusion, and cultural humility.

The psychologist also will join our active and expanding Inpatient Consultation/Liaison Service. Attending psychologists rotate weekly along with psychology trainees, and the psychologist will be part of that rotation. The Inpatient C/L Service completes consults and provides ongoing care for inpatients in medical beds, with consults from multiple services (e.g., endocrinology, gastroenterology, surgery, pulmonology). The psychologist will provide psychosocial assessment, recommendations, and problem-focused interventions for children on the inpatient medical units.

The psychologist will participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and other efforts to ensure the sustainability of their service. In addition, there will be opportunities for research. This role involves teaching and presentation of relevant topics to colleagues, trainees, medical staff, and patients. The psychologist will provide staff support and education around family-centered care and psychosocial issues. The psychologist will consult with medical providers and maintain close collaboration with members of multidisciplinary medical teams. In addition, there are opportunities for collaboration with leadership on goals to promote diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the workplace, through a lens of health equality. Academic appointments through Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University are expected and supported.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

1. Doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or school psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program.

2. Internship training from an APA-accredited program in clinical child or pediatric psychology.

3. Post-doctoral fellowship training in clinical child or pediatric psychology.

Experience

• Applicants with all levels of post-licensure experience will be considered, with a preference for candidates with a well-rounded experience in pediatric psychology, and robust as well as recent experience with inpatient medical settings.
• Specific expertise in multicultural care to meet the needs of our most underserved families in our community.
• Bilingual Spanish skills are strongly preferred.
• Advanced knowledge and skills in pediatric practice in medical settings, especially the critical care setting, including evidence-based therapy modalities, crisis intervention, and risk assessment.
• License-eligible in the state of Delaware.
