This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Basic Requirements: Citizenship: Citizen of the United States Education: Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in clinical (or counseling) psychology from an APA-accredited graduate program. Completion of an APA-accredited internship in professional (clinical) psychology Licensure: Holds a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the state of (North Carolina, preferred but not required). Must be eligible for an appointment at the Durham VAMC as a clinical psychologist Experience: Must have a least one year equivalent to the GS-14 grade level. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: 1. Ability to translate national research goals or priorities into specific scientific project activities of significant complexity and sufficient sustainability. 2. Ability to create, organize, manage, and maintain high quality (e.g., funded, peer reviewed) research programs independently. 3. Knowledge of budget control procedures that include funding from multiple sources which may vary annually. 4. Skill in managing and directing the work of large, complex research projects and in applying effective management practices. 5. Skill in persuasion, negotiation, and motivation to negotiate multiple program requirements. 6. Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees and other managers using advanced consultation and problem solving skills. 7. ["The mission of the VISN 6 MIRECC is to provide a translational medicine approach in which the overarching goal is the clinical understanding and treatment of post deployment mental illness. The Director has full programmatic authority for all professional, management and administrative aspects of the complex, multi-site, VISN 6 MIRECC. This individual oversees and directs MIRECC-related research projects, educational programs, and clinical demonstration programs. The position requires an extensive background in mental health sciences including knowledge of new developments or of experimental theories, combined with experience, judgment, planning, analysis and evaluation, administration, and management and coordination of federal health programs. Duties include but not limited to the following: Administrative Responsibilities (40%) Has supervisory responsibility for subordinates and responsibility for all professional, management, and administrative aspects of the Mid-Atlantic MIRECC. Manages and directs the work of others, within a complex, multi-site organization, to accomplish program goals and objectives, and able to devise ways to adapt work operations to new and changing programs, staffing, and budget requirements. Supervises a program that functions as a translational unit, which includes a Deputy Director and Administrative Officer, three core components (Research, Education and Clinical Demonstration), a central post-deployment data repository and longitudinal study, six distinct research laboratories, several programs of national scope, and professional and support staff members at three VA facilities and several remote locations. Ensure that all research activities conducted by personnel with MIRECC support have been reviewed and approved by the relevant VA Institutional Review Boards and Research Committees. Effectively assesses qualifications and potential of current and prospective employees for appointment with the Mid-Atlantic MIRECC. Acts as a liaison to represent the VISN 6 MIRECC on a national level (to OMHSP. Other VACO programs and offices, other MIRECCs and mental health Centers of Excellence and the scientific community at large). Research Responsibilities (40%) Actively engages in and supports MIRECC scientific research programs, including responsibility (personally or assigned) for accomplishing the scientific review and evaluation process for research programs. Develops policies, procedures, and criteria for administration of the MIRECC Research program, ensuring compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies and monitoring entities, as appropriate. Serves as a principal investigator on research initiatives designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches in the areas of the VISN 6 MIRECC expertise (i.e. PTSD, TBI, post-deployment MH). Manages research scientific programs of major public health importance or policy emphasis. Develops, oversees, and evaluates multidisciplinary and integrated clinical demonstration programs for the treatment of post-deployment mental illness. Maintains the MIRECC's focus on post-deployment mental health, including the Post-Deployment Mental Health Longitudinal Study (PDMH-L. Presents outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings. Prepares RFP's and grant proposals as needed in the areas of the VISN 6 MIRECC expertise. Clinical Responsibilities (10%) Has knowledge of and ability to apply advanced psychopharmacology to the full range of patient populations. Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to psychiatry and behavioral health. Has expert knowledge of clinical research literature pertaining to the areas of VISN 6 MIRECC expertise (i.e. PTSD, TBI, post-deployment MH). Commitment to promoting the implementation of new evidence-based treatments to improve Veterans' post-deployment mental health. Academic/Teaching/Training Responsibilities (10%) Must be eligible for a faculty appointment at Duke University, an affiliated university with the Durham VA Medical Center at least at the Associate Professor level. Provides oversight of the Mid-Atlantic MIRECC Fellowship training programs. Serves as a mentor and/or consultant to other medical center staff and trainees and assists in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.
