Practice Overview:
As a member of the Child Advocacy Center's multidisciplinary team, the Child Protection Medicine Psychologist delivers a broad range of direct clinical and other specialist psychological services to young people who are the victims of neglect and/or abuse. The Psychologist plays a number of essential roles for the Child Advocacy Center's multidisciplinary team that involve both clinical and forensic aspects of child abuse or neglect and family violence. These services aim to promote the safety and well-being of children who are involved in the child protection system and address the needs of their caregivers and family members.
Responsibilities:
- Psychological evaluation of children and adults in cases of alleged child abuse and neglect including parenting capacity and psychological functioning (intellectual, educational, social, emotional and behavioral).
- Clinical interviews with children.
- The provision of independent expert opinion and written reports to Courts regarding children's placement and other needs.
- Referral of children and adults to psychotherapy for abuse and neglect issues
- Participation in case conferences and consultations with case coordinators in their assessments.
- Timely submission of written reports of evaluations to the team as required by contract or dictated by best practice.
Job Qualifications:
- Formal, specialized graduate training and successful completion of ongoing continuing educational training in the areas of child development, child and adult psychopathology, all aspects of childhood abuse and victimization, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and psychotherapy with children and adults.
- A minimum of one year of supervised experience and two years minimum of independent professional experience in the evaluation of children and adults. Included in the three years of professional experience shall be at least 100 hours of experience in dealing with child abuse cases including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, failure to thrive, and other forms of childhood victimization.
- Sufficient professional experience and expertise that would allow them to be qualified as a mental health and family violence expert in criminal, civil and dependency courts in Pennsylvania.
- A CMS credentialed provider.
- PhD or PsyD and APA-accredited internship required; postdoctoral fellowship in clinical or pediatric psychology preferred.
- A current PA Medical License or ability to obtain one is required.
